Big news, a baby… and 4 days left for Therion
Ok, a lot has happened in the last two weeks.
The biggest news — probably in my entire life so far — is that we had a baby! Phoebe arrived on the same birthday as her mum, setting us up for a future of double birthday celebrations. I can’t believe how much I’ve learned in two weeks alone, knowing this is just the beginning.
She’s an incredible, adorable, and positive addition to our lives that Steph and I love dearly.
This is why I’ve been a little quiet on the newsletter and social media front — my attention’s been slightly diverted. Even as I write this, she’s loudly letting us know she’s here.
And then, on top of that, we had the successful launch of the Kickstarter. August has been one of the craziest months of my life. I suppose we timed the campaign well — I don’t think I could’ve managed it if Phoebe came any earlier.
We’ve just hit $13k on Kickstarter are so stoked with this result. It’s encouraging knowing there’s real interest in Therion. I’m already pumped for the first arrivals of the books… can you imagine the unboxing content?! Let alone all the merch that’s coming. But that’s a little horse-before-the-cart thinking — what I’m most excited for is wrapping up the campaign and diving back into Davgar. Sketching every morning and working with Tahlia was such an enjoyable routine, and I’ll be sharing more of that process in the coming months as we finish the book.
So — four days left in the campaign (how time has flown!). That means there’s still time to squeeze in more backers and hit Stretch Goal 2. This is also your chance to secure your First Edition copy of Issue 1 before the campaign ends. If you haven’t backed yet, now’s the time. And if you can, spread the word to anyone you think would love to read it.
On a little sidenote — I’ve been rewatching Game of Thrones Season 1. I forgot how much this series shaped my writing. Robert Baratheon, the drunken warrior king who longs for battle but detests politics. The merciless manoeuvring of Littlefinger and Cersei. The way the show introduces the world without clunky exposition — subtle backstory reveals, conversations that build both character and setting. Even the most detestable characters have endearing qualities. Jaime, for example: horrible in Season 1, but even then you glimpse what it means to be the son of Tywin Lannister.
Anyway, bit of a rant — but it reminded me why I’m making Therion. Books and shows like this, and the feelings they create — that’s the energy I want to capture.
And I hope Phoebe reads it one day — and feels proud of her geeky dad.
