How we created Therion
Before Therion became a graphic novel, it started as a short story I wrote back in high school about a boy named Unegen, born with the spirit of a fox dwelling inside him.
That was 2010.
Fast forward to 2016: I had big ideas to turn this short story into an animated film. Sam and I both were keen to immerse ourselves somewhere unique to write the script, so we packed our bags, grabbed our cameras, and flew to Mongolia.
We explored Ulaanbaatar’s streets, the vast steppes Gobi Desert, and the icy beauty of Lake Khövsgöl, living in gers, writing by hand, and shaping what would eventually become the world of Davgar.
A lot has changed since then - the story is very different, the tone is darker, characters have been rewritten, and scenes have been scrapped. But that experience of Mongolia’s landscape, history, and culture are still in Therion’s bones.
We’ve put together a short video sharing the story of how that journey helped shape our graphic novel. Click the link below.
More soon — including the official launch of the Kickstarter page.
Thanks for being part of this.
